KOLKATA: The City of Joy has been officially confirmed as the home of the Durand Cup – the oldest club football tournament in Asia, for the next five editions.

Addressing the media at Fort William during the unveiling of the iconic Durand Cup trophies in the presence of Aroop Biswas (Hon’ble Minister for Sports & Youth Affairs, Power in the Govt. of West Bengal), Lt. General Kamal Repswal (Chief of Staff, HQ Eastern Command, SM, VSM) made the announcement confirming Kolkata as hosts.

NEW DELHI: Five Indian Super League teams and three I-League outfits will be among the 16 teams that have signed up for the 130th edition of the Durand Cup football tournament, which returns from a COVID-19 induced gap year and will be played in Kolkata at different venues from September 5 to October 3.

NEW DELHI: The 130th edition of the Durand Cup, the world’s third oldest and Asia’s oldest football tournament, organized annually by the Indian Armed Forces, will be held between 5th September and 03 October after a year's gap caused by the coronavirus pandemic. A statement from the Armed Forces said the Durand Cup will be held at various venues in and around Kolkata.

KOLKATA: The Durand Cup, the world’s third oldest and Asia’s oldest football tournament , returns after a gap of three years to entertain football lovers of the nation.  The prestigious tournament was first held in 1888, at Dagshai (Himachal Pradesh) and is named after Mortimer Durand, who was the then foreign secretary in charge of India.
