The Asian Legends League, first announced in May 2024 but postponed twice, will kick off its inaugural edition on March 10, boasting a roster of players from India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Qatar, UAE, and Afghanistan.
Per an official release, Asian Legends League 2025 is a “historic” moment for cricket lovers in Rajasthan’s Nathdwara. The tournament’s official announcement was made at Madan Paliwal Miraj Sports Centre (MPMSC), Nathdwara, where preparations for the event were also unveiled.
From March 10 to March 18, teams featuring veteran players from India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Qatar, UAE, and Afghanistan will compete in the T20 tournament.
During the press conference, league commissioner and former BCCI selector Chetan Sharma, Miraj Group’s vice chairman Mantraraj Paliwal, MPMSC director Lakshman Diwan, league CEO Mahavir Prasad Sharma, and EMCL founder & league organizer Ravi Kumar Yadav shared insights about the league. They also announced five participating teams along with their icon players.
Sharma described the Asian Legends League as a one-of-a-kind tournament.
· Irfan Pathan will play as the icon player for Indian Royals
· Thisara Perera joins Sri Lanka Lions as their all-rounder
· Former Afghanistan captain Asghar Afghan will represent Afghanistan Panthers
· Mohammad Ashraful will be the icon player for Bangladesh Tigers
· Mohammad Shakoor will lead the Asian Stars
The nine-day event will feature 15 matches, all of which will be broadcast live on Star Sports.
Speaking about the tournament, Paliwal said: “This international event will bring new opportunities and recognition to Nathdwara. It will be the first time such a prestigious league is being held in the holy city of Shreenathji.”
Per the release, the opening night on March 10 will feature Bollywood stars, singers, and actors. Fireworks, light shows, a drone show and over 100 dancers performing on stage.
Cricket fans will also get the chance to watch cricketing “legends”, including Irfan Pathan, Suresh Raina, Virender Sehwag, and Yusuf Pathan.
