60% viewership rise for 1st 3 games of KPL 2018: BARC

MUMBAI: The Karbonn Karnataka Premier League (KPL) seems to have benefited largely from its official broadcast partner, Star India’s strategy of making Kannada commentary available with select operators in the state.

According to dats provided by BARC India, the tournament has seen a 60% rise in viewership numbers for the first three matches of the competition that began on August 15 this year and will end on September 6.

BARC numbers show that the average impressions by viewers in urban areas across India are 353.1 million in 2018 vis-à-vis 220.7 million in 2017. Karnataka by itself has the lion’s share of the viewership as well as growth with 67.4 million in 2018 vis-à-vis 57.4 million in 2017, marking a rise of 17%.

Across the country, the KPL can be watched live on Star Sports 2 and Star Sports HD in the English language having commentators such as Dean Jones, Scott Styris and Mitchell Johnson.
