MUMBAI: India’s largest broadcaster Disney India is doing a major rejigg of its channel portfolio, shutting down ten channels, while launching 16 new ones.
On the sports channel front, the network will be “de-activating” the licenses it held for Star Sports 1 Bangla and Star Sports 1 Marathi and “switching on” Star Sports 1 Tamil HD and Star Sports 1 Telugu HD on December 1.
Disney India also confirmed that the network will exit the English general entertainment genre with Star World, Star World HD and Star World Premiere HD all going off air on November 30.
The channels are among 10 channels being shut according to the Reference Interconnect Offer published by the network. The ten channels from the Disney India network going off air effective December 1: Star World, Star World HD, Star World Premiere HD, Bindass, UTV Movies, UTV Action, UTV HD, Star Sports 1 Bangla, Star Sports 1 Marathi and Baby TV HD.
In the new RIO, Star India has published the rate card of 78 channels. At present, the network broadcasts 72 channels, thus adding six new channels to its overall bouquet of channels.
