MUMBAI: The second edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) has reportedly been postponed indefinitely by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC). “Official” reason cited: unavailability of foreign players.
SLC’s reasoning notwithstanding, the latest body blow to the on-again, off-again LPL comes close on the heels of the termination a third franchise in the league – the Jaffna Stallions. A franchise owned by investors of Sri Lanka and Indian origin from different parts of the world, the team won LPL’s inaugural edition.
The axing of the Jaffna Stallions made the franchise the third to have been terminated after Colombo Kings and Dambulla Viiking.
As per Cricbuzz, the terminations were meted out to the three teams due to reasons of non-compliance.
Apart from the Kings, Viiking, and Stallions, Kandy Tuskers and Galle Gladiators were the other two teams in the inaugural season.
The second edition of the LPL was scheduled to take place from July 30 to August 22.
