MADRID: The FIM, IRTA and Dorna Sports have announced the cancellation of the 2021 Grand Prix of Finland.
The ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, as well as resulting travel complications to Finland, have obliged the cancellation of the event.
However, Dorna Sports also announced an extended five-year agreement with the Grand Prix of Finland, assuring the stunning new KymiRing a place on the calendar until at least 2026.
In addition, the FIM, IRTA and Dorna Sports announced the Michelin Grand Prix of Styria will be added to the 2021 calendar. The event will take place at the Red Bull Ring from the 6th to the 8th of August, the weekend preceding the Austrian Grand Prix.
The Styrian Grand Prix was first celebrated in 2020, with a history-making premier class race cementing its place in the history books alongside the Austrian Grand Prix.
In more good news for fans, in agreement with local authorities and whilst adhering to all required health protocols, both the Styrian and Austrian Grands Prix expect to welcome a limited number of spectators back through the doors this season at one of the most beautiful tracks in the world: the Red Bull Ring.
MotoGP remains at Sachsenring for another 5 years
Dorna Sports and the ADAC have announced that the Sachsenring will remain the home of the Liqui Moly Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland.
The ADAC and MotoGP rights holder Dorna will continue their partnership until at least 2026, establishing a long-term basis for the continued existence of one of the largest individual sporting events in Germany.
The motorcycle spectacle at the iconic circuit near Hohenstein-Ernstthal has been one of the highlights of the sporting year in Germany since 1998. Each year, roughly 200,000 fans flock to the Sachsenring to watch the world’s best motorcycle riders.
Hermann Tomczyk, ADAC Sport president, said: “I am delighted that the ADAC, together with Dorna Sports and the support of the Free State of Saxony, will continue to stage the Motorcycle Grand Prix of Germany at the Sachsenring for the next five years. In these difficult times, it was important for us to lay the foundations for this in good time, and to give the Sachsenring – a Mecca for motorcycles – a long-term prospect. MotoGP at the Sachsenring has been a highlight of the season for motorcycle fans for a long time and is an established major event on the sporting calendar in Germany.”

The 2021 German GP will take place behind closed doors due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
