MUMBAI: South Africa’s AB de Villiers has created history in the Indian Premier League after being retained by his IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore the 2021 season.
RCB’s decision to retain the explosive batsman for Rs 110 million for the season means he will have earned a whopping Rs 1.025 billion just in salary at the conclusion of IPL 2021.
According to a report by InsideSports, there are four Indian players already on this elite list – Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, RCB captain Virat Kohli, Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma and Dhoni’s teammate at CSK Suresh Raina.
Incidentally, Raina also enters the Rs 1 billion club only because his franchise decided to give hime a new contract for IPL Season 14.
De Villiers is widely considered as one of the finest batsmen in the world when it comes to the shortest format. Despite retiring from international cricket in May 2018, De Villiers has remained one of the finest batters in the world in the T20 format.
