Serie A invites India subcontinent rights bids for 2021-2024

ROME: Italy’s top flight football league on Monday issued the Invitation to Tender (ITT) for international media rights related to the Serie A Championship, Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana for the three-year cycle 2021-2024.

The ITT includes 115 packages and the commercialisation is structured on continents, regions and countries, with the possibility for interested parties to buy one or more packages. Relevant for this market is the Indian subcontinent rights package.

The Indian subcontinent rights are currently with Sony Pictures Networks India.

Bids will be accepted by Lega Nazionale Professionisti Serie A from Wednesday, 16 December, 10 a.m. CET until and no later than Monday, 11 January 2021, 10 a.m. CET.

Screen rights on international flights, ships
The ITT packages includes the right to screen live matches on flights and ships travelling outside Italy.

More than half of Serie A revenues come from broadcasting rights, Reuters reports. Serie A raised some €370 million ($438.08 million) each season from the sale of its broadcasting licences abroad under a three-year deal expiring next year, against some €1.6 billion euros per season raised by the Premier League.

Reuters further reports that Serie A is spinning off its media rights business unit, selling a minority stake to private equity investors, in a move aimed at boosting its revenue and weathering the novel coronavirus-induced financial storm.
