SPN secures broadcast rights to Lanka Premier League

COLOMBO: Sony Pictures Network India (SPN) has bagged the rights to broadcast the inaugural edition of the Lankan Premier League (LPL) T20 tournament, set to kick off later this month.

In response to a question raised on Twitter, Sony Pictures Sports Network India (SPSN) confirmed that it will be broadcasting the tournament on its channel, Sri Lanka’s Newswire reports.

For the record, SPN holds the media rights for South Asia (excluding Sri Lanka) to international cricket played in the island nation.

The LPL will be held from 27th November to 17th December. All matches will be played at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium in Hambantota.

Sri Lanka’s health ministry finally gave its approval on 5th November for the tournament to be hosted in the Emerald isles following multiple meetings with relevant officials.

The LPL will be held under strict health guidelines and under a biosecure bubble, due to the prevalent coronavirus pandemic. A number of local and foreign players are set to participate in the T20 tournament.
