Mashal denies any talks around holding PKL 8 in Lanka

MUMBAI: Mashal Sports, which holds the commercial rights to the Pro Kabaddi League and has Star India as its controlling stakeholder, has dismmised “speculative news”
that the league has approached the Sri Lanka Kabaddi Federation to organize PKL season 8.

Anura Pathirana, president, Sri Lanka Kabaddi Federation, clarified to the Pro Kabaddi management that no discussion has been conducted with any officer or functionary of Pro Kabaddi about the prospects of the league being conducted in Sri Lanka and that any statement ascribed to him in this regard is incorrect and a mis-representation of whatever he might have said on this matter.

Providing clarity on the current situation regarding Vivo PKL VIII, a Mashal Sports spokesperson said: “The usual window for a season of Pro Kabaddi League is between July and October. This year, in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, we continue to review the situation and best options for a safe and secure opportunity for the sport, fans, players and other stakeholders.

“The health and safety of our players and other participants is the paramount and key consideration in our decision, along with complete compliance to official policy and guidelines.

“We are also not in discussions with the Sri Lanka Kabaddi Federation to hold Season VIII in Sri Lanka. Anything that we finalize will be done only after the due consultation with the authorities, AKFI, PKL Teams, and other relevant stakeholders.”
