MUMBAI: Mukesh Ambani-owned Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Mumbai Indians has signed two new sponsors – Marriott Bonvoy and Astral Pipes – and with it has reportedly become the first Indian sports franchise to cross the Rs1 billion sponsorship revenue milestone for a single season.
A team spokesperson confirmed both deals to Economic Times and said the contract with Marriott Bonvoy – the loyalty programme for all the 30 hotel brands of Marriott International – is for three years.
While no financial details were shared, ET, quoting sources, reports that the sponsorship agreement with Marriott Bonvoy is worth Rs 300 million over the thee years that the agreement runs, and that the Marriott Bonvoy logo will appear on the right chest of the team jersey.
While this is the first time that Marriott Bonvoy has signed a sponsorship deal with an India sports franchise, the brand has had associations with Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Formula One, NFL and the NBA.
As for Astral Pipes, the spokesperson told the business daily that the logo will occupy space on the non-leading arm of the shirt.
For the record, Samsung came on boardc in 2019 as MI’s lead sponsor on a three-year sponsorship reportedly valued at Rs 750 million.
ET further reports that among other sponsors, the team has TV channel Colors’ logo on the back of a player’s jersey, Reliance Jio on the lead arm, Usha International on the front of the helmet, Sharp on the back of the helmet, and Burger King and William Lawson logos on the trouser.
The team’s official partners include Dream11, Kingfisher, Boat, Taiwan Excellence, Radio City, Fever FM, Reliance Foundation’s Education and Sport for All (ESA), BookMyShow, Performex and DNA Networks.
