EPL renews search after CEO-designate forced to step down

LONDON: The English Premier League has been forced to resume its hunt for a chief executive for a third time after CEO-designate David Pemsel resigned two months before he was due to take up the role.

The 51-year-old was forced to step down after allegations appeared in the UK’s Sun tabloid earlier this week about his private life.

The Premier League said in a statement on Friday: “Following media disclosures earlier this week and discussions with David Pemsel, the Premier League has today (Friday) accepted David’s resignation and he will no longer be joining as chief executive.

“Richard Masters will continue as interim chief executive.

“No further comment will be made at this stage.”

For the record, Masters has been filling in as interim CEO for over a year now, since EPL’s long-serving chief Richard Scudamore stepped down in November 2018.
