Odisha govt paid out Rs670m for hosting Hockey WC 2018

BUBANESWAR: Nearly 11 months after the conclusion of the Hockey World Cup in the city, the state government revealed the expenditures incurred for hosting the showpiece event in the state.

The Odisha Sport and Youth Services Department stated it spent Rs 669.8 million for organising the international event at Kalinga Stadium here from November 28 to December 16 last year, Orissa Post reports. The department made the declaration in response to an RTI plea filed in June.

As per the expenditure statement, the government spent a total Rs 669.8 million for the event while the budgetary allocation for the event was Rs 825 million. However, the department had put the total figure at Rs 595.9 million in the provisional expenditure statement.

The government, which had claimed that the other activities including opening ceremony had been organised by Hockey India (HI) from their own resources, paid out Rs 250 million to the International Hockey Federation (FIH) and Hl as hosting fees.

Rs 92.3 million has been spent on media and publicity, Rs 188.9 million spent on management of the event and the venue and Rs 38.3 million on transportation of players and their officials, Odisha Post, quoting figures from the RTI reply, further reports.

For branding of the event in India and outside, the state government spent Rs 19 million while Rs 14.1 million was given for accommodation of players and other guests visiting the state during the event. Statutory expenses were worth Rs 8.496 million as per the statement given by the Sports and Youth Services Department, in its reply, the daily additionally reports.
