TURIN: Juventus Football Club Sunday broke away from over a century of tradition displaying a new new home kit that no longer features the club’s iconic black and white stripes.
The new colours, created by adidas for the coming 2019/20 season, was not only panned by fans, but also failed to inspire the Italian champion side in Sunday’s game against Roma, instead suffering a 2-0 loss.
For the record, Massimiliano Allegri’s side have not won a match since sealing an eighth consecutive Scudetto, being held to 1-1 draws in their last two games against Inter Milan and Torino.
Coming back to the new team colours, according to the club’s marketing team, the “daring” new design evokes the past, whilst igniting the future of the club through the evolution of the iconic black and white stripes. The new jersey will continue to have the iconic black and white colours, but in the shape of the new half-and-half stripes, along with an unexpected flash of pink that sits at the heart of the design and honours the first colour the club ever played in.
The unexpected design keeps to the tradition that is woven in the club’s DNA but has evolved to mark the progressive new era of Juventus. A clean crew neck collar with black and white sleeves is featured on the shirt, each with contrasting three stripes, creating a miss-matched stripes look on each shoulder. In addition, the kit also features CLIMALITE technology, to wick sweat and keep you dry, allowing players to experience peak performance.
It is an invitation to fans to embrace a new thought. Different. But always, deeply, Juventus. #BETHESTRIPES
However, this has not been taken lightly by the Juventus fans who, in a majority, are not too satisfied with this change and with the design of the new jersey.
From “0 identity left” to “Worst all the time”, initial reactions on Twitter have been largely been negative. The design team at adidas would of course be hoping that the new colours will grow on the fans indue course.
The new 2019/20 Juventus home kit became available Sunday on the Juventus official online store, Juventus stores and in adidas global retail stores.
