Mourinho, Neymar named DAZN global ambassadors

MADRID: DAZN, the first global pure-sport live and on-demand streaming service owned by UK’s Perform Group, has signed multi-year agreements with renowned football manager Jose Mourinho and Brazilian superstar Neymar, declaring them its global brand ambassadors.

The development was declared in a press conference in the city on Wednesday, which also marked the official launch of DAZN’s services in Spain.

“Growing up in Brazil instils a love of sports, especially football,” said Neymar, who will feature in exclusive DAZN original content in 2019.

“Brazilians rally behind the teams and athletes they love. I think DAZN has the same type of passion towards sports and wanting to make it as easy and affordable as possible for people to enjoy.

“Sports should be available for everyone and I’m happy to join a brand that has this goal in their DNA.”

Mourinho, who will provide punditry and promotional duties in 2019, added: “DAZN is giving football fans a new way to enjoy the sport and players they love.

“Their style of live football coverage is different from what I’ve experienced before.

“I like their authenticity and pushing the boundaries of sports broadcasting. I’m excited to join DAZN as a global ambassador and connect with football fans around the world with this platform.”

DAZN will be made available in Spain for just €4.99 ($5.68) per month, with the first month free and no long-term contract. The platform shows multiple live events at any one time, on nearly every device, including TVs, tablets, phones, PCs and games consoles. It’s a new, flexible way to watch every single moment, anywhere, free from expensive and lengthy pay TV contracts.

The brand has been swift in its global expansion since 2016 and is now available in eight countries after Japan, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Canada, Italy and the USA. The service is currently streaming on social media in Brazil before launching officially in the South American nation in the coming months.

DAZN Group CEO Simon Denyer stated: “This is the dawn of a new era for Spanish sport fans as they join the revolution of flexible, accessible and affordable sport that we are rolling out around the world. Spain is a nation of sport lovers and they are ready for change. They want a better way to watch and we are incredibly proud to be making that happen as we expand our rapidly growing international business.”
