MUMBAI: Netflix, the global OTT platform giant confirmed on its Twitter handle on Tuesday that it will be showcasing a special sports documentary on three-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians starting from 1 March 2019.
The Reliance-owned cricket franchise had confirmed Netflix’s plans to do the same in April 2018 with the documentary titled as ‘Cricket Fever: Mumbai Indians’. Across eight episodes, the series will bring across to fans all behind-the-scenes action starting from the IPL 2018 mega auction.
The documentary will be produced by Condé Nast Entertainment and will have four executive producers in Al Edgington, Joe LaBracio, Jeremy Finn, Jamie Stewart and James Maby.
This will be the first instance of an IPL team being featured in a documentary on a digital platform. Previously, the two-time champions of the league, Kolkata Knight Riders featured in Discovery Channel’s ‘Living with KKR’ series that was shown in four parts on television in 2014, the year in which they won their second title.
On the other hand, this is Netflix’ second association with cricket in India, having showcased a web series ‘Selection Day’ in December 2018, which is a screen adaptation of the Man Booker Prize winner Aravind Adiga’s 2016 sports fiction novel having the same title.
