NEW DELHI: The International Association of Athletics Federations has appointed Indian sports lawyer Vidushpat Singhania on its independent Election Oversight Panel. The appointment is for a period of four years beginning this month and covers two election Congresses in 2019 and 2023.
Singhania is the only Indian member on the panel. The Election Oversight Panel consists of 5 members including a chair. All the members’ are appointed by the IAAF’s Council.
Besides Singhania, other members of the Panel are from Australia, South Africa, Belgium and United Kingdom.
The Election Oversight Panel has been set-up by the IAAF to ensure that all candidates for election of IAAF office conduct their candidacies with honesty, dignity, moderation and in compliance with the IAAF’s rules and regulations.
The Election Oversight Panel has been tasked with the role of laying down guidelines for the elections and organising, running and supervising IAAF’s elections.
Singhania is the managing partner of Krida Legal, a Delhi-based law firm and has advised the Union government on the National Sports Development Code, the National Sports Development Bill, 2013, the National Sports Fraud Bill 2013 and the Anti-Doping Legislation 2018.
