SFA partners with ABTPC, IIS for sports scholarship programs

MUMBAI: Sports For All (SFA) Tuesday announced that it will be associating with two major talent development institutions in India, the Abhinav Bindra Targeting Performance Centre (ABTPC) and the JSW Sport-owned Inspire Institute of Sports (IIS), to scout promising athletes and nurture them, Press Trust of India reports.

The development was announced by SFA founder Rishikesh Joshi at a select media briefing in the city. As part of the partnership, IIS will provide five scholarship programmes lasting 1-2 weeks for deserving athletes.

Joshi said that the institution will scout talent from primarily five sports namely judo, wrestling, boxing, athletics and football for the purpose. Coaches from IIS will come during the Mumbai leg which begins from 3 December and scout the talent, he added.

Apart from this, it was announced that a specially designed 7-day high performance camp and special boot camp for athletes who are willing to train in athletics, judo, boxing and wrestling has also been designed at the IIS facility and SFA medal winners can avail the facility at subsidised rates.

Joshi concluded that ABTPC will provide SFA athletes with scholarships and a month-long training and recovery programme.
