MANCHESTER: Premier League heavyweights Manchester United will be travelling ‘Down Under’ to Australia for its annual pre-season tour in July 2019. The Red Devils are set to feature in two fixtures at the Optus Stadium in the Western Australian city of Perth.
The first fixture will be against A-League’s Perth Glory FC on 13 July. The second one will see United take on English rivals Leeds United at the same venue on 17 July, the first between the two sides since 2011.
This will be only the fifth time that Man United will visit Australia, the first being in 1967 when Matt Busby’s team toured Australia, playing eight friendly matches. The last time United visited Perth was in 1975.
Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward, commented:
“Our pre-season tour is an integral part of the squad’s preparation for the forthcoming season and after what will be a forty-four year absence since we last played in Perth, we are delighted to be returning to Western Australia to play not just one, but two games against Perth Glory and Leeds United.
“As well as preparing for the season ahead, the club will also have the opportunity to engage with our loyal fans in Australia, who last got the chance to see us play in Sydney in 2013.”
Tickets for the tour are expected to go for general sale online on 29 November. The club has reserved some of the best seats in the stadium exclusively for its Season Ticket holders, Executive Club members and official members, available for purchase before 11 December.
All the Tour 2019 games will be shown live on MUTV and the Official App. In addition, ManUtd.com and the club’s Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube channel will provide access to the players on tour, as well as exclusive content and programming as the squad prepares for the new season.
Further details on additional pre-season fixtures, locations and ticket details will be announced soon.
