TURIN: Serie A champions Juventus terminated its employment contracts with CEO Giuseppe Marotta (aged 61) and CFO Aldo Mazzia (aged 62) on Wednesday.
Marotta has been compensated with 723,550 euros ($827,533) while Mazzia is set to receive 587,000 euros ($671,359).
While the club hasn’t given specific reasons for this decision, Italian newspaper reports claim that Marotta is all set to join Juventus’ rivals Inter Milan as the head of football operations on a three-year contract worth 3 million euros ($3.43 million) per annum. He is said to be the architect of the success of Juventus since his tenure began as CEO back in 2010.
On the other hand, Mazzia had been associated with Juventus since 1987 in several capacities such as BOD member and CEO.
“We’ve decided to divide Beppe (Giuseppe) Marotta’s responsibilities to those who are already board members, so there will be a new generation of leaders entrusted with the future of Juventus.” Club chairman Andrea Agnelli was quoted as saying by juvefc.com at Juventus’ annual shareholders’ meeting recently.
