MUMBAI: Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli took to Twitter on Tuesday to announce his first ever personalised range of sneakers that he has co-curated with global sports apparel makers Puma called ‘one8 Basket’. Besides Puma’s official Indian website, the product has been made available on Myntra in an exclusive partnership so far.
Kohli tweeted a 45-second video with a caption: ‘Hours at the nets. Hours at the gym. Hours with the design crew at @PUMA! Here’s a quick peek into what makes the Basket Classic #one8 what it is. Check it out for yourself at @PUMA stores, http://PUMA.com and @myntra.’
The video described Kohli’s desire to make the gentleman’s game look more classy through the sneakers that he has designed himself, beings hands on in the process with the PUMA team. He went old-school with it, also putting a special gold stitching on premium leather which is inspired by stitches on a cricket ball.
Much of Kohli’s batting gloves look has been incorporated in the perforations of the shoe. Giving it a feel of Test cricket, the oldest format of the game, the sneaker is purely white. However, it is also available in black, another classic colour. The batsman calls the sneaker ‘a mix of style and comfort’.
According to India.com, the video was created by Street Style Spotlight, India’s first street fashion and urban culture magazine, specifically for Puma.
This marks another milestone in Kohli’s 8-year deal with the brand that he had signed in 2017 worth Rs. 1 billion, which catapulted him to the likes of Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni amongst the biggest earners from endorsement in Indian sport and amongst other celebrities in the country.
