MUMBAI: Former Super Fight League (SFL) director Avi Mittal has replaced Raj Kundra as the nonorary chairman of the All India Mixed Martial Arts Association (AIMMAA).
Mittal, who is also a successful investment consultant, will supervise the day-to-day affairs of the association, Mumbai Mirror reports.
His role will broadly cover sanctioning of professional MMA shows, liasoning upcoming Pro MMA leagues, training and certification of referees and other MMA event officials, training and certification of MMA instructors and coaches across India and developing partnerships with government organizations which supervise and control combat sports.
“I am both honoured and elated to chair the AIMMAA board. I have been closely following AIMMAA’s efforts in India and want to bring my successful business experience to enable us to grow as an Indian MMA Organization with a worldwide vision,” Mittal stated.
AIMMAA is India’s oldest MMA organisation and is affiliated to Global Mixed Martial Arts Federation (GMMAF). The association was registered in 2004 and has created a database of around 10,000 licensed Indian fighters, male and female, in the past 14 years.
Kundra had been at the helm since 2015.
“With his (Mittal) national and international network, he will only strengthen AIMMAA’s already determined vision for Indian MMA athletes to achieve global success,” said AIMMAA founder and board member Daniel Isaac.
