NEW DELHI: Team India will reportedly be donating their entire match fees earned for the third Test at Trent Bridge for Kerala flood relief.
While the amount is yet to be ascertained, PTI said the figure could be in the region of “Rs 20 million or more” while ABP News gave it as Rs 12.6 million.
“We, as a team, want to dedicate this win to the flood victims in Kerala. This is our bit we can do as the Indian cricket team. A tough time there,” Kohli said at the post-match presentation, where he was adjudged the Man-of-the-Match for his knocks of 97 and 103 in India’s 203-run win over the home team.
Team India also decided to donate their full match fees for the relief of those affected by floods.
For a Test match, a first XI player earns Rs 150 million while the reserves get half that amount, PTI reports.
Kerala has been battling one of the worst floods in the history of the state with damages estimated to be Rs 200 billion. Nearly 400 so far have been reported dead and hundreds of thousands have lost their homes.
Earlier, a number of cricketers, including the likes of Shahid Afridi, Sanju Samson and Pathan brothers – Irfan and Yusuf – had shown their support for the Kerala flood victims. While Samson donated Rs 1.5 million through his father, the Pathan brothers ran a relief material collecting drive and later dispatched the essentials collected to Kerala for distribution through volunteers.
