MUMBAI: Former India cricket captain MS Dhoni is the most popular sports figure in India, according to survey conducted by UK research firm YouGov.
The firm’s online community consists of more than 4 million people.
Dhoni’s ‘admiration score’ was 7.7%, which is ahead of the likes of batting legend Sachin Tendulkar (6.8%) and current Indian skipper Virat Kohli (4.8%).
Being the most successful Indian captain of all time, Dhoni continues to play for India’s ODI and T20 sides besides leading Chennai Super Kings in the IPL. As a result, there is a fair amount of public spotlight on him till date and that is said to be the reason why he pipped Tendulkar in this regard.
However, Kohli is making a mark for himself in breaking records as India’s captain on the field and on social media off the field, having more followers on Instagram than Dhoni and Tendulkar combined.
