Only TNCA registered players in TNPL: SC

NEW DELHI: Strike this for the Committee of Administrators (CoA). The Supreme Court ruled on Wednesday that players registered with associations other than the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association will not be allowed to take part in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL).

After staying off the matter in previous editions of the state T20 league, TNCA had tried to override earlier objections from parent body BCCI as well as the CoA by permitting TNPL franchises to induct two players from outside Tamil Nadu as long as they procured NoCs from their respective state bodies.

A Bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra, however, said TNPL matches will be held in accordance with the schedule as they have already been approved by the CoA, which has been administering the BCCI, PTI reports.

The apex court ruled against the submissions made by the TNCA after senior advocate Parag Tripathi, appearing for CoA, pointed out that no outside player has played in the TNPL since 2009.

The TNPL, which kicks off Wednesday, has eight teams and every team has been allowed to have a pool of 20 players each.
