Dortmund eyes eSports expansion in Asia and USA

HAMBURG: Bundesliga heavyweights Borussia Dortmund have announced a 3-year partnership with online platform, eSports.com.

The deal makes Dortmund the second Bundesliga club to foray into the eSports zone, days after FC Koln agreed to a similar deal with the website as well as SK Gaming back in January.

As a part of the agreement, Dortmund fans will be entitled to avail special offers on eSports.com as the TG will be those youngsters interested in online gaming. Reportedly, tournaments with professional players are being planned for well-known eSports titles. It is no longer a  secret that professional footballers not only play football on the console.

In recent times, Dortmund has attempted to expand into the Asian and American markets and this deal with a global platform such as eSports.com is bound to assist them in reaching its vision.

Dortmund MD Carsten Cramer commented on the partnership.

“With our new partner eSports.com, we have found an ideal platform to reach the increasingly important target group of eSports
enthusiasts. Above all, it is important for us to place our core business – football – with this target group. Of course, a website
with millions of coverage and a selective clientele is ideal. Both partners and especially the fans will benefit, and I look forward to
working with them,” Cramer said.

“The networks and fans of Borussia complement each other very well with our existing cooperations in the American
and Asian regions. We both want to use the huge potential of these markets – that’s why it’s obvious to work on this together,”
eSports.com CEO Michael Broda said.
