NEW DELHI: In its special general meeting (SGM) on Friday, the BCCI finally signed the CoA-announced revised central contracts of players ahead of the tour of England.
Uncertainty over player payments was looming large due to the troubles between the CoA and the BCCI. The former had announced the new payment provisions on March 7, yet the BCCI acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary refused to sign them citing that it had to be approved by the board in a meeting featuring representatives of 28 state associations in the first place.
“Despite doubts, the SGM has taken place. All resolutions have been passed by the general body unanimously,” Choudhary was quoted as saying by PTI.
According to the new provisions, the players in the A+ category will get Rs 70 million, while ones in the A, B and C will get Rs 50 million, Rs 30 million and Rs 10 million respectively.
The board also agreed with the CoA in increasing the salaries of domestic and women’s cricketers.
“The general body of the BCCI has authorised me to sign the players’ contracts. It has also resolved to consider proportionate increase in the remuneration of the domestic players, both and men and women. Not only the absolute amounts but also related to the gross revenue of the BCCI,” he added.
However, with the SGM conducted despite CoA’s resistance and there still be tremendous conflict over issues between the two parties, Choudhary said that efforts are being taken to work in harmony.
“The dynamics between BCCI and CoA are governed by the laws. There is no place for emotions here. We will continue to work under CoA’s supervision.”
