MUMBAI: Sahara Force India is not up for sale, a source “close” to Vijay Mallya, co-owner and team principal of the Silverstone-based Formula 1 team, has asserted.
“Nothing is happening – no sale or anything of Force India. F1 is notorious for people wanting to buy teams. I would take it with a pinch of salt,” the Mallya ‘aide’ told Business Standard.
Thge assertion comes in the wake of months of speculation that the company may soon change hands.
Among the suitors are the boss of British energy drink Rich Energy, title sponsor BWT, Mercedes, and Indycar team Andretti.
“Andretti Autosport is a diverse motor sports property and we have many discussions about opportunities within and outside of our current portfolio,” a spokesperson told Sports Business Daily.
Also powering the sale rumours are claims Force India asked Liberty Media for a loan, amid news the legally-embattled Mallya stepped down as a director on the board of Force India.
