Telcos look to score big with World Cup viewers

MUMBAI: Mobile operators Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio Infocomm are looking to leverage the excitement around the FIFA World Cup to grab their respective share of eyeballs from among the 100 million+ viewers in the country expected to watch the world’s biggest sporting event. 

Bharti Airtel’s video streaming platform Airtel TV has introduced live broadcasts of the World Cup in various local languages in addition to Hindi and English – keeping in mind the diverse Indian landscape with football fans spread all over.

Airtel TV users will also have access to match schedules and other updates related to the game. To augment the experience further, users will also be able to enjoy exclusive behind the scenes match snippets along with match previews/ reviews with Airtel TV.

Not to be outdone, Mukesh Ambani-owned Jio has announced its subscribers will be able to watch World Cup matches live on Jio TV at no additional subscription charges.

“Sporting enthusiasts across India will now be able to enjoy an integrated experience with Airtel TV with live broadcasts of the upcoming football tournament available to users in various local languages in addition to Hindi and English – keeping in mind the diverse Indian landscape with football fans spread all over,” he said. 

All content on Airtel TV app is FREE for Airtel Postpaid and Prepaid customers till December.

Also in on the action is Vodafone India, which is giving its customers an opportunity to win iPad Mini by playing a simple game on MyVodafone App. Customers need to score goal points by playing a game or transacting on MyVodafone App, thereby standing a chance to win iPad Mini every day.

With its interactive proposition on MyVodafone App, Vodafone India aims to make the current FIFA season more engaging for its digital savvy customers. The 34-day contest will be held from 11th June – 15th July. The bumper prize winner will get a travel voucher worth Rs 100,000.
