MUMBAI: Indian boxing star Vijender Singh will be gunning for his third professional title when he takes on Britain’s Lee Markham for the vacant Commonwealth super middleweight title at York Hall in London on July 13.
“Indian star @boxervijender challenges for the vacant Commonwealth Title against @leebanjomarkham on the @MTKLondon show on July 13th. Should be a cracking fight!” Vijender’s UK promoter Frank Warren tweeted on Monday.
Both fighters will be coming off a pretty long lay-off, with Vijender’s (10-0-0, 7 KOs) last fight coming in December (beat Ghana’s Ernest Amuzu by unanimous decision), while Markham (17-4-1, 7 KOs) lost to Joe Mullender via split decision in June last year.
The Commonwealth title is without a holder since January after reigning champion Rocky Fielding decided to vacate it in pursuit of the European belt in the same weight category.
