MUMBAI: Star India’s OTT platform Hotstar created a world record on cloud delivery platform Akamai during Tuesday’s IPL 2018 playoff match between Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

The humdinger of a game, which CSK won in the last over, reached 8.26 million concurrent viewers.
Tom Leighton, co-founder and CEO of Akamai, confirmed this development via his Twitter handle on Wednesday.
Leighton tweeted: “A new global benchmark was established for video last night: @hotstartweets& @Akamai reached 8.26M concurrent viewers for #VivoIPL2018. A #worldrecord for online streaming! With 97% of viewers on mobile devices. Welcome to the new world. This is the future of video for billions.”
It meant that Hotstar and Akamai broke their own record that they smashed earlier this season, when 5.26 million concurrent viewers watched the Chennai Super Kings vs Kolkata Knight Riders match on April 12.
