Punjab plans village level sports tourneys to combat drug menace

JALANDHAR: The Punjab state government is contemplating organising a series of village level sports tournaments in a bid to combat the menace of drug abuse.

Rural development and panchayat minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa told the Tribune that these tournaments would be organised at the village level to promote sportsmanship among the youth, besides channelising their energy in a positive direction.

The minister said dope tests would be made mandatory in the tournaments.
