Former BCCI GM MV Sridhar passes away

MUMBAI: Former Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) general manager MV Sridhar passed away in Hyderabad on Monday morning.

Sridhar succumbed to a cardiac arrest, aged 51. Sridhar’s passing away a little over a month after he resigned from his post of BCCI’s general manager – Cricket Operations, having been in the position since 2013. He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.

Sridhar, who was also former Hyderabad captain, resigned from his post on September 27 after failing to disclose possible conflict of interest due to his involvement in five cricket clubs in Hyderabad. The Committee of Administrators, which had sought an explanation on his role at the clubs, subsequently accepted his resignation after a meeting at the BCCI headquarters.

Following Anil Kumble’s resignation as head coach of Virat Kohli-led Team India, Sridhar supervised team management in West Indies. Sridhar quit from the post after India’s tour of West Indies in August. Sridhar represented Hyderabad in the Ranji Trophy from 1988-89 to 1999-00. In 1994, during a match against Andhra Pradhesh, he posted the third-hightest individual score in a Ranji Trophy game, finishing at 366.

A doctor by qualification, Sridhar took up various roles in Indian cricket administration post his first class playing career. 

Former BCCI administrator Anirudh Chaudahary and commentator Harsha Bhogle tweeting their condolences.

“Rest in peace Dr. Sridhar my friend. Gone too early. Tremendous service to cricket both as a player and an administrator,” tweeted Chaudhry.

“I am deeply distressed to hear of the passing of Doc MV Sridhar. Bade bhai, life mein to abhi bhot runan banaana that aapku.” Bhogle tweeted, adding, “Doc Sridhar was someone you could call anytime. I did. Courteous & firm. And a fine batsman. “Let’s do it our Hyderabadi way” he would say”.
