Barclays agrees Women’s Super League title sponsor renewal

Women’s Professional Leagues Limited (WPLL) which runs UK’s Women’s Super League and Women’s Championship, has agreed a new multi-year title sponsor renewal with Barclays touted as the biggest deal in women’s domestic football history and sees Barclays double their investment to build on their long-term support of the women’s game in Britain.

While exact financial details were not provided, British media reports put the title sponsorship renewal as being worth more than £30 million ($40.05m).

Barclays’ investment is foundational for the new era of the women’s professional game in England and is the first sponsorship deal agreed following the creation of WPLL in August as the new company taking over the responsibility of the top two tiers of women’s football in the UK.

Nikki Doucet, CEO of WPLL, commented: “Barclays has been a leading light when it comes to supporting women’s football and they become a founding partner for WPLL as we embark on a transformational journey to grow the game.

“This record multi-year investment demonstrates long-term commitment and is important because it provides positive endorsement and increased support for what we are trying to accomplish.”

Tom Corbett, Group head of Sponsorship, Barclays said: “I speak for all my colleagues when I say how proud we are to be continuing our sponsorship of football.

“This latest agreement solidifies our long-term commitment to supporting the game at every level and creating opportunities for everyone to benefit from it.”

The British bank also extended its partnership with the Football Association for an additional three years, lasting until 2028 and renewed its men’s Premier League sponsorship for an additional four years, where it remains as the official banking partner until 2029.
