The number of transfers reached a new record high, with more than 12,000 transfers in men’s and women’s professional football combined during the 2024 mid-year transfer window, FIFA declared Tuesday.
The number of international transfers in the 2024 mid-year transfer window set a new record, with a total of 11,000 international transfers. This represents an increase of 4.9% compared to the same window in 2023. Clubs around the world spent more than $6.4 billion during the 2024 mid-year window, $1bn lower than the record set in 2023.
On the distaff side, the growth of women’s professional football showed no sign of letting up, with the number of international transfers reached a record high of 1,125, an increase of 31.9% compared to the same window in 2023.
Spending on international transfer fees increased at an even higher rate, reaching a total of $6.8 million – more than twice the amount that clubs spent in the mid-year window of 2023.
