Cricket West Indies (CWI) is closely monitoring the escalating situation between India and Pakistan following recent military actions in the region.
CWI is in active communication with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), and its players currently involved in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Pakistan Super League (PSL).
CWI declared: “We have also engaged our strategic partner, West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA), to coordinate and ensure the safety, security, and well-being of all West Indies players and support personnel in the region. The welfare of our people remains our highest priority.
“CWI continues to receive regular updates through diplomatic, governmental, and cricketing channels, and stands ready to offer assistance where necessary. We remain committed to the spirit of international cricket and to supporting our players through this uncertain and sensitive period.”
West Indies players in IPL 2025 – Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, Rovman Powell (Kolkata Knight Riders), Nicholas Pooran, Shamar Joseph (Lucknow Super Giants), Shimron Hetmyer (Rajasthan Royals), Romario Shepherd (Royal Challengers Bengaluru) and Sherfane Rutherford (Gujarat Titans).
Windies players in PSL 2025 – Jason Holder (Islamabad United), Gudakesh Motie, Shai Hope (Multan Sultans), Alzarri Joseph (Peshawar Zalmi), Akeal Hosein (Quetta Gladiators).
Thursday evening’s IPL fixture in Dharamsala between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) was abandoned midway. The match saw only 10.1 overs of the first innings after PBKS chose to bat first.
Per India Today, the PBKS vs DC game was going on when one of the light towers went off at the stadium in the 11th over. The players began discussing amongst themselves during the break. However, the delay continued to get longer, and the match was eventually called off.
There is no official statement yet from the IPL governing council on the sharing of points between the two teams for the fixture.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia issued an official statement following the cancellation of the fixture. “Match 58 of the tournament, which was called off after Pakistan attacked several locations in Jammu, including the airport. Rockets were fired at Jammu from across the international border on Thursday. Hence, keeping everyone’s safety in mind, the IPL governing council decided to call off the match midway,” Saikia informed in a media release.
“Keeping everything in mind we have decided to call off today’s match. Things are not ok as of now and that’s why we called off today’s match not just Dharamsala but from neighbouring country they’re escalating the things Players spectators and support staffs safety is our priority we will do everything what is in best interest of nations. We are monitoring the situation and Will take call accordingly,” Saikia added.
Meanwhile, the 27th match of PSL 10 between Peshawar Zalmi and Karachi Kings, scheduled to be played on Thursday in Rawalpindi, was called off and rescheduled just hours before the toss.
The Pakistan Cricket Board declared it would announce the revised date in “due course”.
