THE BADMINTON WORLD Federation (BWF) on Monday confirmed the tournament hosts for the revamped 36-tournament BWF World Tour 2027 to 2030.
Alongside the confirmation, the BWF unveiled its plans for the future.
The new tour structure will consist of a unified six levels, with the BWF World Tour Finals, five Super 1000 tournaments, five Super 750 tournaments, nine Super 500 tournaments, eight Super 300 tournaments, and eight Super 100 tournaments now fully integrated for the first time.
The BWF confirmed a significant increase in prize money across all tiers, with the minimum purse for Super 1000 events, up from $1.45 million to $2m. It was also reported that Super 1000 tournaments could be expanded to an 11-day window, featuring both round-robin and knockout stages.
The host for the World Tour Finals will be announced at a later date, the BWF noted.
Relevant to India, meanwhile was the confirmation that the India Open has retained its Super 750 status and will continue to be held in New Delhi through the 2027-2030 cycle.
This comes despite the 2026 India Open having faced criticism from overseas players over hygiene standards and poor air quality during the January window.
Incidents of bird droppings on the courts and monkeys in the stands during the week-long tournament drew criticism from various quarters, even prompting the Union Sports Ministry to seek explanations from the organisers.
For the record, the BWF World Tour is structured across six tiers – from the top tier Super 1000 to the developmental Super 100 – with higher tiers offering greater world ranking points and requiring significantly larger prize purses to attract the world’s top-ranked players.
