THE DELHI GOVERNMENT has taken a major step towards establishing the national capital as a global sporting destination by signing a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the School Games Federation of India (SGFI) and the International School Sport Federation (ISF) to host international school-level badminton and wrestling championships in 2027.
The agreement is expected to bring together over 1,000 young athletes from around 50 countries, providing a significant boost to grassroots sports and international sporting exchanges. The MoU was signed during a ceremony attended by Delhi’s Education and Sports Minister Ashish Sood, who described the event as an important milestone in the government’s efforts to build a world-class sports ecosystem in the capital.
Under the partnership, Delhi will host international school competitions in badminton and wrestling next year, marking one of the city’s biggest commitments to school-level international sports.
The International School Sport Federation is the global governing body for school sports and has been recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) since 1995. It organizes world championships and multi-sport events for school athletes across numerous disciplines.
