AIFF asks all 14 ISL clubs to confirm participation by July 20 with ₹55 lakh 1st instalment

THE ALL INDIA FEDERATION (AIFF) has directed all 14 Indian Super League (ISL) clubs to confirm their participation in the upcoming season by paying the first instalment of ₹55 lakh before July 20.

The deadline comes as Indian football authorities work to ensure the timely commencement of the country’s top-tier domestic competition amid ongoing administrative and commercial uncertainties.

According to communications sent to the clubs, each franchise has been asked to deposit the initial participation fee of ₹55 lakh and formally confirm its entry into the league by the stipulated deadline, a report in The Times of India said. The move is intended to help the AIFF finalise operational planning, including fixtures, logistics and competition management, ahead of the new season.

The directive comes during a period of transition for Indian football. In the new model adopted by AIFF and the clubs, it has been decided that the league’s clubs will hold the commercial rights for ISL going forward, while the AIFF will retain administrative control and oversight of key operational aspects, in a move toward a more globally common, club-led commercial model.

The payment forms part of the participation requirements for clubs competing in the ISL. Once the deadline passes, the AIFF is expected to assess the list of confirmed participants before moving forward with the league’s scheduling and organisational preparations.

For clubs, the July 20 deadline provides clarity on the immediate next steps as they continue preparations for the new season, including player recruitment, coaching appointments, pre-season training and commercial partnerships. Most franchises have already begun assembling their squads despite the uncertainty surrounding the league’s administrative structure.

The Indian Super League remains the country’s premier professional football competition and one of the most commercially significant sports properties outside cricket. The league has attracted substantial investment from corporate groups, broadcasters and sponsors over the past decade.
