BCCI decides against World Cup opening ceremony: Report

After reports did the rounds detailing the “grand” plans host BCCI was making for a “lavish” opening ceremony of the ICC Cricket World Cup at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, comes news that the Indian cricket board has nixed the idea.

The World Cup, which is set to commence on Thursday, 5 October, will reportedly skip the opening ceremony this year, according to Rev Sports. Said ceremony was (as per reports) to take place Wednesday, a day before the tournament’s opening match at the same venue with defending champions England taking on runners-up New Zealand.

What appears to have missed everyone’s attention is that neither was there official word on all the “grand plans” (which were reported on down to the last detail) being laid out for the opening ceremony, nor has there been official word that there is no ceremony at all.

Rather strange it needs stating. More so considering the tournament is a quadrennial event. AND a “World Cup”.
