Sunando Dhar relieved of duties, no more with AIFF

Long serving All India Football Federation official Sunando Dhar has been relieved from his responsibilities as AIFF deputy general secretary and has left the national governing body.

The Times of India accessed an internal AIFF communication that stated: “Sunando Dhar has been relieved from his responsibilities as deputy general secretary effective, February 20, 2023

The communication further stated that Dhar has “personal commitments and responsibilities due to which he is unable to continue with the federation”.

Not surprisingly, the AIFF will not be making any appointment in the role of the deputy general secretary. Anil Kamat, who has been with the AIFF for more than two decades, will be taking over whatever responsibilities Dhar was handling, TOI reports.

Dhar had been with the AIFF since 2010 and was appointed as the CEO of I-League the very same year. He was appointed the AIFF’s acting general secretary by the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators last year till elections were held. He was looking after the footballing activities of the AIFF when FIFA banned the national body citing third-party interference.

Dhar held onto the position till September last year when a new committee led by BJP politician and former India goalkeeper Kalyan Chaubey took over as AIFF president and Shaji Prabhakaran was appointed secretary general.
