Leading sports apparel brand adidas is reportedly “very close” to sealing the deal as shirt sponsor of the Indian cricket team for the next five years.
The adidas deal is expected to begin from June this year and end in March 2028, Cricketnext reports.
The rights are currently with Kewal Kiran Clothing Limited, parent brand of Killer Jeans. It bears noting that Killer Jeans was onboarded as a “filler” after MPL Sports, the surrogate apparel brand of fantasy gaming platform Mobile Premier League (MPL), pulled the plug early on its shirt sponsorship deal with the BCCI.
For the record, MPL Sports had signed a three-year rights deal in November 2020 that was to run till December 2023.
Prior to MPL coming on board, Nike had a five-year deal with BCCI that ran from from 2016 to 2020 during the tenure of which the US sportswear giant had paid Rs 370 crore.
