MUMBAI: JSW Group scion Parth Jindal, the driving force behind JSW Sports, has reached out to Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) chairman Anand Mahindra, seeking his support for Indian sports and institutions like the Inspire Institute of Sport (IIS).
IIS, a privately-funded high-performance athlete training centre in Vijayanagar, Karnataka, is promoted by JSW Sports, which Parth founded and oversees. It provides training and education to student-athletes on a fully-paid scholarship across athletics, boxing, judo and wrestling.
JSW Sports runs the Indian Super League football club Bengaluru FC, Indian Premier League franchise Delhi Capitals, Pro Kabaddi League team Haryana Steelers, and IIS. It was in 2018 that JSW Sport acquired a 50% stake in Delhi Capitals from GMR Group and Jindal was subsequently appointed as chairman of the IPL team.
“Dear @anandmahindra, seeing your passion for sports it will be fantastic for @MahindraRise to support Indian sports and institutes like @IIS_Vijayanagar through CSR,” Parth Jindal, who is the managing director of JSW Cement, tweeted, tagging the M&M chief.
As Financial Express noted, Mahindra, who is active on Twitter, generally shares inspirational messages on his Twitter handle, which has more than 9.6 million followers. He answers questions from followers on the social media platform.
IIS is backed by 30 corporate sponsors, including IndusInd Bank, Borosil, SBI General Insurance and Nestle Milo, among others.
For the record, 13 athletes supported by IIS came away with medals at the just concluded Commonwealth Games 2022.
