ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Deputy CM Chowna Mein has called for governing bodies of sport in the state such as the Arunachal Sports Authority, Arunachal Olympic Association and the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs to come up with a blueprint for developing world-class infrastructure and facilities, Press Trust of India reports.
Arunachal will be hosting the North East Olympics 2020 Games and that is the target being set.
The state government felicitated all the medal winners from the first edition which was held this year for the first time in Manipur from 24-28 October. It registered its best-ever medal haul to finish third in ranking after Manipur and Assam with 18 golds, 22 silvers and 39 bronze medals. Altogether 182 players participated and took part in the 12 sporting disciplines during the competition.
“It is a matter of great satisfaction that we are celebrating the success of our medal winners who have brought laurels to the state by proving their mettle in first Northeast Olympic Games held in Manipur,” Mein was quoted as saying to PTI.
“There is no dearth of talents in our state,” he said and hoped that players from the state achieve new heights with each passing day and added that sportspersons are doing well at the national and international level.
Mein also complimented the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs and the coaches of the medal winners for their contribution in raising and grooming the state players.
Congratulating Abraham K Techi for his appointment as the secretary general of the Northeast Olympic Association, Mein believes that under his leadership, sports activities in the region will reach new heights in the years to come.
