“The principal cause of ruination is wanton excess through the sin of hubris.” With this ‘thought for the day’ out of the way, on to the scheduling mess that seasonal rains have made of the ongoing Asia Cup. As per the latest reports coming in after the blockbuster India-Pakistan match, carried over from Sunday, finally got underway, the September 17 tournament final will probably be moved out of Colombo to Kandy – at the Pallekele International Stadium.
It is worth mentioning here that the Pallekele stadium in Kandy served as the site of three group stage contests, of which BOTH the India games – against arch rival Pakistan and minnows Nepal – were washouts.
So why Kandy? Because the weather is worse in Colombo.
As for host broadcaster Disney Star and the long suffering Indian cricket fan, they will continue to “live on a hope and a prayer”. They basically have no other choice.
