BANGKOK: The Asian Boxing Confederation (ASBC) has officially confirmed that the Asian Boxing Championships in 2019 will witness the men’s and women’s events being hosted simultaneously in the Thai capital city from 19-27 April. Bangkok’s Huamark Indoor Stadium will be the venue, which can attract 6000 fans at the maximum.
Registrations for all teams will end on 19 March and the championships will have 10 weight categories for both the genders.
Women’s: 48kg, 51kg, 54kg, 57kg, 60kg, 64kg, 69kg, 75kg, 81kg, 81+kg
Men’s: 49kg, 52kg, 56kg, 60kg, 64kg, 69kg, 75kg, 81kg, 91kg, +91kg.
“For the very first time in the history of the elite event, both genders will be attending at the same time in Thailand’s capital which is scheduled to take place in April 16-27,” ASBC mentioned in a release.
In the last edition of the men’s competition in 2017 in Uzbekistan, India won two silver and two bronze medals respectively which included the participation of Shiva Thapa and Vikas Krishan.
On the other hand, six-time world champion MC Mary Kom was the sole gold medal winner at the women’s competition in Vietnam in 2017.
