NEW YORK: Licensing company Authentic Brands Group LLC has emerged as a leading contender to buy Sports Illustrated from Meredith Corp., the Wall Street Journal reports.
The price is about $110 million, WSJ quotes people familiar with the matter as having said, but would not inclde the FanSided website network.
Authentic Brands – home of such brands as Nautica and Juicy Couture – has come front and centre as the lead suitor in the bidding for the iconic magazine after American private equity firm TPG Capital reportedly dropped out of the race.
Meredith has been examining a sale of the brand for more than a year now, while other former Time Inc. properties have moved on.
