Barcelona strike ‘record $1.82bn’ Nike kit deal

FC Barcelona have sealed a record $1.82 billion, 14-year kit partnership with Nike, starting this season.

While Barça did not disclose the deal’s length or financial details, reports suggest the Catalan club has negotiated the highest club sponsorship deal in football, worth $136m a year.

The current Nike contract was set to expire in 2028.

The contract also includes a $168m signing bonus for Barca, which will be paid over the duration of the lengthy deal, InsideWorldFootball reports.

The renewal with the American multinational, which first partnered with Barça in 1998, was expected after club president Joan Laporta urgently called a virtual meeting with the board to share the terms, which were swiftly approved.

A few months back, Laporta described this agreement as “the most significant in the world of football”. Barcelona had considered a significant offer from Puma and even the idea of creating and distributing its own apparel brand. This led to a legal dispute between Barça and Nike, with the U.S. company ultimately winning in court.
