BANGLADESH CRICKET BOARD (BCB) has sent a follow-up letter to the International Cricket Council (ICC), formally outlining its security-related concerns about travelling to India for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and renewing its request to have its matches moved to Sri Lanka.
“Following discussions with Sports Ministry advisor Asif Nazrul, the BCB has once again sent a communication to the ICC. The ICC wanted to know areas of concern with regards to security and BCB has cited them,” a source close to the board told PTI.
At present, the ICC has not proposed any relocation of Bangladesh’s scheduled fixtures in Kolkata and Mumbai to Colombo. However, the BCB has indicated that the global governing body remains open to engaging with it to assess the security issues raised.
Tensions have escalated following Bangladesh’s decision not to travel to India after fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman was released from the Kolkata Knight Riders ahead of IPL 2026. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) cited unspecified “developments all around” for the decision. In response, the BCB has also blocked the broadcast of the IPL in Bangladesh.
The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is due to begin on 7 February, with Bangladesh scheduled to play four matches: three in Kolkata and one in Mumbai.
