MUMBAI: The BCCI has called a Special General Meeting on May 29 to reportedly discuss the upcoming cricket season in India, particularly the T20 World Cup, which is scheduled to be hosted in India in October-November.
A notice to the state associations from BCCI secretary Jay Shah, accessed by Cricbuzz, reads: “Notice is hereby given for the Special General Meeting (SGM) of the BCCI which will be held on May 29, 2021, virtually, to transact the following business: ‘Discussion on the upcoming cricket season in view of the pandemic situation prevailing in India. You are requested to attend the meeting. Link to the meeting will be shared in due course.'”
Serious doubts have emerged over the hosting of the T20 Word Cup in India with the second wave of COVID-19 sweeping through the country. The UAE has been named by the International Cricket Council as the designated standby venue for the tournament if the BCCI fails to make a convincing case that the tournament should go ahead in India as originally planned.
The SGM has been scheduled ahead of the ICC meeting on June 1 when the game’s world governing body is likely to decide on the staging of the competition.
At its apex council meeting last month, the BCCI had shortlisted nine venues for the showpiece event — Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Dharamsala, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow and Mumbai.
